Pittsburgh, America's "Most Livable City", has come to symbolize regional renewal as a one-time industrial region that has become a balanced, innovation-driven economy.

For over one hundred years Pennsylvania state law has recognized veterans' skills and service by awarding them a preference in government hiring.  Applicants honorably discharged from their full-time military commitments.  Reservists and national guard members can earn eligibility when they complete their full-time training and are honorably discharged from their part-time service obligations.  In both cases, applicants must be honorably discharged prior to the Civil Service examination date.  Spouses of deceased or disabled veterans are also eligible for the Veteran's Preference Points.
