Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, the position of Housekeeper is responsible for performing a wide range of cleaning duties in campus buildings, using specialized housekeeping equipment and formulas to maintain a clean, safe, and aseptic environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The position includes use of cleaning machines and moving of furniture. Regular in-service training is provided.

Essential Functions:

Maintain assigned building areas of the campus in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner; wash, wax, buff, scrub, sweep, polish, dust and vacuum as assigned.

Operate various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical, in order to remove soil, stains, and other debris from assigned areas.

Perform special cleaning, furniture moving, or function setup and breakdown projects, as required.

Operate and maintain departmental equipment in a safe, orderly, and efficient manner.

Safety practices and procedures must be followed in all building maintenance and custodial work.

Use cleaning solutions and supplies according to department standards to ensure safety and efficiency.

Empty trash, garbage, and recycling bins using safety procedures.

Clean campus property including offices, classrooms, corridors, walls, floors, windows, furniture, woodwork, toilets, lavatories and fixtures.

Clean and prepare areas for guests for special events and student spaces prior to entrance, departure, and return.

Provide timely response to work orders and assignments, via the Facilities Department web-based maintenance management system, School Dude.

Perform pressure washing as assigned.

May be required to unclog drains or toilets as needed.

Follow all safety protocols for blood borne pathogen response and cleanup.

Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Completion of two years of high school, knowledge of general custodial maintenance, and related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to read, write, and communicate routine information, follow instructions, and learn and follow safety protocols and proper techniques.

Knowledge of basic housekeeping practices in maintaining building cleanliness in good order.

Knowledge of proper use and application techniques for cleaning products and equipment.

Ability to perform repetitive tasks in cleaning buildings with minimal supervision.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Must act responsibly and follow all policies and procedures; be punctual, honest, and helpful.

Ability to uphold the Universitys commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Continuous walking, standing, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Periods requiring sustained uncomfortable physical positions.

Ability to lift, carry, and position objects utilizing proper body mechanics and techniques.

Utilize proper sanitary precautions when handling trash, garbage, and other potential biohazards.
