Auburn Veterinary Specialists - Gulf Shores seeks candidates for a Veterinary Technician position to perform various tasks related to the care and treatment of animal patients. This position assists in the monitoring and treatment of all patients admitted to the hospital.

Auburn Veterinary Specialists is the centerpiece of a 24,000-square-foot Auburn University Educational Complex in Gulf Shores, Alabama, providing specialty veterinary services and educational opportunities for students interested in internal medicine and surgery, and is a satellite of the Auburn University Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Essential Functions
  • Operates, maintains, repairs, cleans laboratory equipment, clinic area, and maintains supplies
  • Performs, instructs and demonstrates specialized veterinary care techniques and procedures
  • Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring specialized care
  • Inspects facilities, equipment and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature and sanitation
  • Provides specialized care and monitoring of animals before, during, and/or after procedures
  • Administers medicine and treatment according to prescribed instruction
  • Observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collects and labels specimens
  • Performs emergency first aid such as emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures
  • Schedules appointments for diagnostic procedures and advises referring veterinarians about the use of specialized equipment
  • May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.



Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Depending on the combination of education and experience, the selected finalist will be hired as a Veterinary Technician and assigned level I, II, or III.

Level I requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification.

Level II requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification plus 2 years of experience in Veterinary Technology or clinical experience.

Level III requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification plus 4 years of experience in Veterinary Technology or clinical experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.

Substitutions allowed for Education:
Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.

Substitutions allowed for Experience:

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

  • Have met all requirements to become licensed in the State of Alabama. Licensure must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
