POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Human Resources Generalist implements human resources programs and policies including staffing, compensation, benefits, visa/green card processing, employee relations, training, and health and safety programs. Recruits, interviews, and selects employees to fill vacant positions. Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals. Keeps record of personnel transactions, such as, but not limited to, hires, promotions, transfers, and terminations. Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier. May be responsible for evaluating and suggesting new benefit or compensation structures or changes to existing health and dental plans. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: 

Receives direct supervision from the Human Resources Associate Director; may assist other departmental employees in the performance of the job functions. Does not supervise other position(s). Frequently exercises discretion.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Implements human resources programs to facilitate organizational changes at all levels. 
  • Recommends new approaches to strive for continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed. 
  • Facilitates new-employee orientations; background checks on applicants, etc.
  • Participates in the development of the Company’s plans and programs as a strategic partner; particularly from the perspective of the impact on people.
  • Counsels and advises managers and supervisors on employee relations issues ensuring compliance with organizational policies and employment laws and regulations. 
  • Facilitates the Performance Management process.
  • Files and maintains employment records for future references.
  • Work with Safety Manager to ensure compliance of all safety policies/procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations. 
  • Keep abreast of developments in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the company
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of all information.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor's degree Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management OR a related field and at least 2 years of professional experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of laws and regulations governing HR practices—specifically to benefits, payroll, and other HR programs.
  • Strategic, analytical thinker, problem solver, strong leadership, project management, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines and people effectively within a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.  
  • Self-starter with strong time management, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Experience in managing complex projects.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment. 
  • Ability to follow procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for long periods to assemble documentation and record data.
  • Ability to walk the facilities to collect necessary data.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push and carry objects and supplies (up to 20lbs).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use his/her fingers.  
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and/or hear.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining how to conduct assigned tasks. 

 

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Report safety hazards immediately to the supervisor or safety manager.
  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage.
  • Wear appropriate PPE, including eye protection, face masks, and hand protection as instructed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Refuse any unsafe task or operation.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training.
  • Be constantly aware of their personal safety and that of their coworkers.

CONDITIONS: 

  • Indoors, controlled temperature office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud due to the use of machinery, telephones, and employees that approach the department. 

 

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and must be willing and able to work some Saturdays or work early or beyond scheduled shift if needed to meet business demands.
