POSITION OVERVIEW: The MN Landscape Arboretum property contains over two dozen separate structures (207,000+ square feet) including the Oswald Visitor Center, Snyder Building, Horticulture & Operation Headquarters, Learning Center, Horticultural Research Center, Bee Discovery Center, Myers Education Center, restored historic barn, picnic shelters, student housing, rental housing, numerous outdoor storage buildings, equipment garages and greenhouses. This position requires the performance of a variety of skilled tasks in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, metal work, and cement work. This position requires the ability to operate and maintain equipment and tools need to perform the required tasks; including operating snow removal equipment in the winter season. DUTIES: 90% - Perform skilled maintenance and repair of Arboretum and Horticultural Research property Building and/or repairing room partitions, cabinets, desks, tables and other interior and exterior structures Remodeling facilities which includes both exterior and interior construction Preparing specifications and cost estimates for projects Following detailed work orders, plans, and drawings for remodeling projects Framing, roofing, and siding structures Painting both exterior and interior surfaces Installing floor covering Designing and building metal frames and other structures for specific research projectsincluding welding, shaping and tempering metals Performing minor electrical work including o Installing lighting o Moving light switches o Installing temporary power for special events Installing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation system Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing system Cement and block construction Using and maintaining a variety of tools and equipment Assisting and instructing seasonal staff on how to perform specific duties which may include providing technical advice 10% - Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Technical education/training in mechanical maintenance totaling one year and one year of applicable work experience, or a combination of education and/or applicable experience to equal a total of two years.
