Occupational Summary 

We are looking for highly motivated recent college graduate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Cagla Eroglu (https://sites.duke.edu/eroglulab/) in the Department of Cell Biology at Duke University Medical Center. This position will involve performing a variety of technical and research duties to support the ongoing studies in the Eroglu lab. The Eroglu lab studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie synaptic connectivity in the central nervous system using cell cultures and transgenic mice. 

 

Description of Research Activities 

The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to perform, or be willing to learn, the following tasks in a research laboratory: 

1. Perform a variety of technical duties to investigate astrocyte morphogenesis and synaptogenesis in the developing and aging mouse and rat brain, including immunohistochemistry, microscopy, viral techniques, molecular cloning, PCR, mouse behavior, surgical techniques, and data analysis. 

2. Support the maintenance of mouse and rat colonies including setting up breeding, weaning and genotyping. 

3. Laboratory maintenance duties such as assisting with maintaining reagent and equipment inventories. 

4. The candidate will be expected to document procedures and collect data in an organized and complete fashion following the laboratory SOP. 

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 

 

Required Qualifications 

· Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, neurobiology, or related fields at the time of employment. 

· Outstanding communication skills 

· Outstanding organizational skills 

· Strong attention to detail and ability to carry out assignments in consistent and accurate manner 

· Experience with mouse handeling is strongly preferred 

· Experience in molecular cloning, confocal microscopy, image analysis, and working with brain tissue samples is preferred.
