DESCRIPTION The Department of Surgery is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine and is comprised of 102 full time faculty members, 220 voluntary faculty members, 20 physicians employed on MSP agreements, 25 doctors employed by the VA or other facilities, 77 accredited and 13 non-accredited trainees and 100 career staff. Activities are organized in 13 sub-specialty divisions. Annual expenditures across the Department total over $66.5M with a global research portfolio of over $19M. UC San Diego Department of Surgery is in search of an experienced biostatistician for a staff position. Using skills of a seasoned, experienced research professional with a full understanding of in-depth statistical analyses and / or research software programming techniques. Candidates with a broad range of research interests are welcome and encouraged to apply; particular attention will be paid to applicants whose areas of interest include outcome research, quality improvement research and health disparities research. Candidate will provide statistical support for all phases of health sciences research in the Department of Surgery. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Thorough knowledge of research function. Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming. Excellent computing skills in statistical software and a publication record documenting both self-directed and collaborative research. Thorough skills in analysis and consultation. Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Skills in project management. Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations. Ability to manage multiple collaborations. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and research team members. Ability to build, foster, and maintain positive and productive professional relationships. Ability to professionally manage cross discipline and cross institute collaborations, acting as an engaged and proactive subject matter expert. Knowledge of clinical trials designs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's or Doctoral degree in applied biostatistics/statistics or similar field preferred. Experience designing and analyzing large data, including co-authoring protocols, grant proposals, and peer-reviewed publications. Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $63,400 - $142,800 Annually The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range.
