Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Works independently and proactively to assist investigators as lead coordinator of investigator-initiated, patient-oriented, clinical research in the Multiple Sclerosis Section of Neurology. Coordinates multiple research studies simultaneously, acting as a liaison with the principal investigator, school, sponsoring agency, and study participants. Recruits patients from clinic and other referral sources. Responsible for managing and recording all phases of study protocol as required by sponsoring agency to ensure compliance. Large clinical research group currently with ten coordinators, needing to expand due to increase in studies. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Confers with PI to assist in developing plans for research projects and discuss the interpretation of results; collaborates in the preparation of manuscripts for publications and preparation of grant proposals to sponsoring agencies; assists in the preparation of amendments to protocols and/or modifications to study design as appropriate. Coordinates the development of forms, questionnaires, and the application of research techniques; assists in writing instructional procedure manuals for study progress, data collection and coding; conducts cognitive interviews to refine study materials. Ensures compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies; establishes record-keeping systems; makes assessments and determinations of participants progress in the study; resolves IRB/protocol management issues and recommends corrective action as appropriate; serves as liaison with funding or sponsoring. Assists in participant recruitment. Works with PI to develop recruitment plans and oversees the work of research assistants and technicians who recruit participants. Enters data or supervises the work of data entry staff. Utilizes RedCap and online Electronic Capture Data Forms. Coordinates collection and handling of specimens, processing, and shipping. Works with staff to identify, screen, and enroll study subjects; ensures labs, specimens, and data are obtained according to established protocol. Attends meetings and prepares study updates and review of data. Conducts clinical research visits. Administers patient research questionnaires, functional tests, cognitive testing. Completes necessary medical history. Completes adverse events reports and collects outside records. Works with study monitors to complete and query data. Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree plus a minimum of two years of clinical/human research experience. Background or experience in healthcare. Experience with conducting patient-oriented research. Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse. Familiarity with EPIC Electronic Health Record System. Working knowledge of techniques and methodologies used in developing, coordinating, and managing clinical research projects. Working knowledge of database management, spreadsheet and statistical analysis software. Comfortable learning new computer systems. Ability to coordinate industry- and investigator-initiated trials using Good Clinical Practices. Experience with submitting studies for IRB review and modification. Ability to establish outstanding rapport with patients and research participants. Ability to think critically and pro-actively. Required Qualifications Bachelors degree plus a minimum of two years of clinical research experience; a combination of relevant work and education equaling six years may substitute for this requirement. Grade C10 Salary Range $50,600.00 - $75,800.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
