Job Summary This position provides an opportunity to play a key part in a lab at the forefront of the field of developmental biology. Working in a state-of-the-art Caltech facility, the Research Assistant will work at a high level in most functions of scientific research in the lab, providing support to multiple lab members working on extremely exciting projects. This position will also provide opportunities for the candidate to develop new skills in molecular biology, cell culture and microscopy. Essential Job Duties Conduct manipulation of mouse embryos and/or stem cells, applying scientific knowledge to troubleshoot and solve problems. Conduct scientific analysis of experimental results related to molecular biology. In collaboration with research lab members, design and modify experimental techniques and procedures; diagnose deficiencies and research alternative options. Consult with other research lab members to refine or adapt methodology to fit research requirements. Must be able to apply scientific knowledge of policies, practices, and protocols to assignments of moderate complexity. May coordinate the ordering, processing, and restocking of lab supplies. May be asked to assist with maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment and instruments. Basic Qualifications BS degree with 3-5 years of relevant scientific research experience. Moderate research project experience. Must be able to interact with various levels of staff, management, and faculty. Must be able to work well with others and keep accurate records, with precise attention to detail.
