       The Division of Biostatistics in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences (pphs.usc.edu) and the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center (USC Norris: uscnorriscancer.usc.edu) at the University of Southern California (USC) are recruiting to fill an assistant professor of clinical position in clinical trials. We seek individuals with strong academic records to join our Division of over 20 faculty and to contribute to our active research and educational programs.                                                                           We seek an applicant with a demonstrated interest in clinical trial research, including trial design, protocol development, monitoring, and application of advanced statistical methods for clinical trials. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in collaborative research with a wealth of studies and data within the Keck School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be part of the Data Science Core of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Biostatistics Core of the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute (ST CTSI). The Data Science Core provides integrated state-of-the-art biostatistics and informatics support to USC Norris investigators on the planning, design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of cancer research studies. Core members play a key role in clinical trials protocol review and study monitoring at USC Norris. The successful candidate will be a member of the ST CTSI??s Biostatistics Core and promote clinical and translational research and facilitate the use of biostatistics and epidemiology in high-quality study design, conduct, reporting and dissemination. The Biostatistics Division has established strength and many collaborative relationships with other investigators in the Department and in the Keck School of Medicine.  Areas of current research strength include integrative genomics, spatial statistics, environmental risk factors, and gene-environment interactions, including both statistical methods development and applications to a wide range of traits (cancer, asthma, diabetes, and cardiovascular outcomes). Faculty in the Division also direct statistical cores as parts of large Centers, including USC Norris, Children??s Oncology Group, Environmental Health Center, and Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Our Division administers Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Biostatistics and Epidemiology, and a new M.S. in Public Health Data Science. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in teaching activities. The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences has a base of over 110 core faculty members and over 800 students, and is recognized as one of the nation??s premier public health groups with over $50M in external funding for research in 2020. The Department focuses on today??s many pressing population health issues ?? current and future pandemics, tobacco and substance abuse, pollution and climate change, health disparities with attention to race, sex, age, socio-economic status and other relevant factors, unsustainable healthcare systems, and understanding the risk factors that continue to drive obesity, cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, dementia and cognitive impairments, and other chronic diseases. The Department??s scholars recognize that these challenges are over-lapping and inter-connected in ways that demand coordinated and integrated evidence-based solutions that utilize ??big data?? and state of the art analysis methods to identify novel risk factors and associated ??precision public health and medicine?? and policy approaches to improve human health.
