Job Description Summary:

The Human Factors (HF) Engineering Lead is responsible for ensuring the usability and operability of the APC and associated support systems. The HF lead will lead a team of HF Engineers who are engaged in the development and life cycle support of the system to ensure ease of use, system performance and reliability, and user satisfaction while reducing operational errors, operator stress, training requirements, and user fatigue. This individual must apply FAA HF design requirements and the results of HF studies, analyses, and test and evaluation results to the iterative design. Applies human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products. Coordinates with the customer to plan and implement end user requests into the system. Supports user testing, training development, and addressed end user support requests. Must have the ability to manage time and resources in order to meet assigned deadlines. Follow and implement the Human factors approach according to FAA HF-STD-001B, Human Factors Design Standard for Acquisition of Commercial Off-the-Shelf Subsystems, Non-Development Items, and Development Systems as well as FAA HF-STD-004A, Standard Practice: Requirements for a Human Factors Program.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Developing and maintaining the HF Program Plan
  • Assessing manpower, skill, and training requirements
  • Plan and conduct Early User Involvement Events (EUIEs) to demonstrate APC system capabilities and allow FAA field representatives and Human Factors Working Group (HFWG) members to exercise early and iterative designs
  • Developing data collection plans and user survey instruments
  • Preparation for and participation in design reviews
  • Performing HF evaluations
  • Assessing the usability of specific touch screen technologies as system design requires
  • Coordinating HF engineering activities with Government-designated HF points-of-contact
  • Ensuring the system design considers ergonomics, auditory aspects of the equipment, safety, and user-friendliness
  • Capturing and documenting user feedback from system demonstrations and tests
  • Reporting on the status of the HF program at Program Management Reviews
  • Integrating HF engineering activities with system engineering and other specialty engineering disciplines including software, integrated logistics, performance/ reliability/maintainability/availability, security, and safety.

What you'll need to succeed:
  • MS/ME/MBA with 10-14 years of experience or BA/BS with 15-19 years of experience
  • Certified in Human Factors is preferred, but not required.
  • This work can be remote within a 30-mile radius to the Egg Harbor Township, NJ area with the ability to attend customer and team meetings and travel up to 10% as needed.
