Position Overview In the TMD, Orofacial Pain, and Dental Sleep Medicine Clinic the successful applicant will be involved in teaching, research, and patient care as part of their Dental Assistant duties.  They would partner with Residents and faculty in the clinic each day to facilitate communication with patients and address their needs. This position is part-time at four days/week. Days/hours: 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday-Thursday   Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: Greet and seat patients (review basics of patient’s visit and history) Manage patient-related paperwork (referrals, imaging, prescriptions, clarification of patient requests) Refer patients, obtain consultation and monitor progress for patients who require hyperbaric oxygen therapy at multiple sites throughout Minnesota. Respond to phone calls from patients and other patient inquiries that cannot be handled by patient care coordinator; partner with faculty and residents to address and resolve. Respond to calls from pharmacies regarding patient prescriptions; partner with residents and faculty to resolve. Field calls from patients in regards to upcoming appointments, respond to inquiries about care and potential costs at the time of the appointment Assisting residents and faculty with patient care as directed Clean and prepare rooms for patient visits Maintain stock of supplies Ensure compliance with infection control and OSHA Supporting laundry services (gowns, lab coats, physical therapy towels, linens) Managing instruments (sterilization, stocking, ordering replacements) Other related duties as assigned The hourly pay rate for this position ranges from $24.04 - $30.08/hour. Required Qualifications (Please detail all the required qualifications on your application materials.): Graduation from an accredited dental assisting program Current State of Minnesota Dental Assistant License  *New Graduate/Trainee option below Certified as a Dental Assistant (DANB)   *Trainee option below Current CPR Certification Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations Experience talking (in person or by phone) with patients about their procedure, medications, directives or related Excellent customer service skills Preferred qualifications: Experience with TMD and Orofacial Pain patients Experience working in a multi-disciplinary clinic setting Experience answering and triaging phone calls from patients Experience using patient information systems (EPIC, axium, or similar) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work well in a team setting and with learner providers Must be able to multi task and adapt to changing work environment and work responsibilities Successful experience providing dental care to a diverse patient base * New Graduate/Trainee option: New graduates who are offered a Dental Assistant position at the School of Dentistry are hired with the expectation of State of Minnesota Licensure** is obtained within 4 months of hire.   ** State of Minnesota Licensure requires Minnesota Jurisprudence Exam, Dental Assistant Licensure Exam and Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Exam to apply for licensure. Licensed Dental Assistants without DANB certification are encouraged to apply with expectation that DANB certification is obtained within 3 months of hire.
