IT SPECIALIST IETMS/ AME HQ
TASK DESCRIPTION: The primary purpose of this task is to support the KAF HQ by providing hands
on technical assistance. The task incumbent will be prepared to function in conjunction with KAF
personnel, at any level for replacement of hardware and incorporation of software changes to KAF
computer systems including but not limited to Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) program
and AME system.
TASK REQUIREMENTS:
1. Coordinates KAF HQ computer hardware and software troubleshooting, installation, repair, problem
diagnosis, and implementation.
2. Assists in the processes, by which requests and inquiries related to KAF HQ computing, LANs,
WANs, and host systems communications are received, screened, prioritized, and resolved.
3. Receives calls for assistance, installations, and general maintenance; logs calls and takes appropriate
action to ensure a satisfactory response with acceptable timeframes for the user community; provides
management and status reports on all requests.
4. Installs, tests, and maintains a variety of personal computing and network hardware and software
systems; performs diagnostic tests, modifies or repairs hardware to the board or component level;
gathers and records appropriate data related to these functions.
5. Provides support to a diverse user community which includes KAF Officers, administrative staff,
CMS personnel and KAF Soldiers in the proper application of existing or new KAF computer
software and hardware systems; coordinates all requirement related to troubleshooting and basic
repair.
6. Maintains a high level of PC knowledge and assists in the recommendation processes for personal
computing hardware, software systems, and host system data communications requirements.
7. Interfaces with the CMS Site Manager and KAF Officers for the purpose of establishing and
maintaining a source of hardware systems, components, parts, and peripheral devices; problem
resolution; and training and in-service programs.
8. Responds to a rapidly changing technical environment and the requirements to the user community.
9. Ensures that a complete inventory of supplies and parts are maintained and that all shortages are
ordered in a timely manner.
10. Utilizes personal computing hardware and software word-processing, spreadsheet, and database
applications to perform basic duties including documentation, reporting, scheduling and user support.
11. Maintains an advanced and current level of technical knowledge and skills involving personal
computing and software architecture, implementation, and troubleshooting.
MINIMUM PERSONNEL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and an Associate of Arts Degree in a computer-related technology. A degree may be substituted by experience of an exact nature.
2. At least four (4) years experience in a hardware support capacity, one (1) year of which includes
working in support of IETMS or AME environments.
3. Knowledge of Windows, DOS, Novell, Windows 2003 and XP, Microsoft Office, troubleshooting
tools, Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, computing hardware repair; PC software
applications high speed networking; proper office methods and practices; modern computer
techniques, methodologies, principles and practices.
4. Knowledge of Windows 2003 Server, PC (PC) Tablets, HP, Compaq and Dell workstations and
Panasonic CF-30 Toughbook computers.
5. At least three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in a hardware and software support
capacity in a user-oriented environment. Hardware experience must include Windows/DOS systems,
printers, modems, scanners, other peripherals, and terminals/equipment connected to centralized host
systems and servers. Background in the installation and troubleshooting of desktop software
applications.
6. DBA for AME system and or IETM program is desired but not required.
7. A+ certification desired, but not required.
8. CompTIA Network+ or equivalent
9. CompTIA Security+ or equivalent
10. Naval Aviation environment experience is preferred.
11. Knowledge of Linux Networks and servers
12. Linux Background
13. Firewall and VPN experience
14. No security clearance is required.
