Job Summary:

The Mechanical Designer will support capital projects during the conceptual design, creating layouts, 3D models, and other documentation that enable Project Managers and Engineers to create, analyze and define CAPEX projects. This role will support and create graphical documentation such as Process Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, and General Arrangement Drawings. The position will be responsible to manage the drawing database. The Mechanical Designer participates in cross functional teams to improve technical knowledge, effectiveness, and results. The position is based at the Pittsburgh, PA Technology Center with frequent travels to all the plants of Carmeuse Americas. (USA, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, and other locations as needed).

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Creates 3D models and 2D drawings using the software collections that Carmeuse has implemented as part of its 3D workflow, using AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, Recap, Navisworks among other software programs.
  • Develop conceptual 3D layout models based on discussions and/or PFD and/or P&ID.
  • Consult with engineers to discuss or interpret design concepts, or determine requirements of detailed working drawings
  • Interact effectively with plant team members including, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Process Engineers, Project Managers, and Vendors to achieve goals.
  • Examine sketches and supporting documents to develop, compute, and verify specifications for drafting data, such as configuration of parts, dimensions, tolerances, and coordinates planes.
  • Manage the database library and record completed job data.
  • Develop and apply the concepts of parametric design.
  • Meet Carmeuse expectations on safety, environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and cost control
  • Assist with troubleshooting and performance enhancements of mechanical systems and recommend cost effective solutions and repairs.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates will have experience on the use of a 3D CAD software such as Revit, Solidworks, Inventor, and/or AutoCAD Plant 3D to develop conceptual 3D models.
  • Formal education with an Engineering Bachelor's degree is preferred. Associate's degree with strong design experience could be considered.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% domestically with some international travel. Overnight stays will be required.
  • Minimum 5 years engineering experience in a multi-disciplinary approach within an industrial environment, preferably in the lime, cement, mining or other bulk material industry is a plus.
  • Proven track record of achieving timely results and while maintaining a safe work environment is a plus.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
