Job Posting Title: Data Analyst and Project Manager- Provost Office

Carnegie Mellon University’s Provost Office is searching for a Data Analyst and Project Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.

This position will serve as the key data analytics liaison supporting student success initiatives within the provost office. Additionally, they will support the ongoing development of leadership dashboards, and will respond to recurring and ad hoc data requests from senior university leadership and academic units. They will play a key role in advancing data analytics projects related to student enrollment, student success, university administration, and resource allocation. This position requires someone who can effectively communicate and collaborate across divisions with senior administrators, academic departments, faculty, professional advisors, data analysts, programmers, and external vendors. The incumbent will launch tools that ensure the effective use of data to inform practice and policy that supports strategic initiatives of the Provost office and promotes the Provost office’s values of access, diversity, and equity.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Serves as a key data analytics liaison in support of student success initiatives
  • Conducts analytical studies and uses appropriate analytical and statistical techniques (such as AB testing, regression and multivariate analyses, predictive/prescriptive analytics, machine learning, and/or optimization methods)
  • Serves as project manager and coordinates with stakeholders across the university to solicit, define, and manage data projects from conception through implementation.
  • Develops and presents visualizations of findings and recommendations to support senior leadership within the provost office.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to identify and understand relevant sources of data for use cases, including internal, external, structured, and unstructured data sources.
  • Supports and documents data collection and storage procedures, and maintains data definitions and specifications for analysis datasets.
  • Collaborates with other staff to select, evaluate, improve, and document tools and systems in order to strengthen analytic capacity.
  • Works with senior leadership and other stakeholders to understand the implications of analyses and to ensure that findings are actionable and support data-driven program, policy, and operational decision-making.
  • Collaborates with team to develop and implement products, services, and tools, such as dashboards and reports, emerging from the analysis.
  • Utilizes ongoing training and professional development to maintain familiarity with new developments and subject matter expertise.

You should demonstrate:

  • Project Management experience required
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization required
  • Experience communicating about data with both technical and non-technical audiences required
  • Experience building dashboards using data visualization tools such as Tableau preferred
  • Experience with querying and processing database information using SQL preferred
  • Experience with statistical or programming languages for data analysis (such as R, Python, SAS, STATA, etc.) preferred


  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s degree preferred
  • 1-3 year work history of managing multiple simultaneous projects
    • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
