We are looking for a candidate who is eager to support our Highway Design group and grow their career with Michael Baker for our Moon Township, PA location.

The successful candidate will have the ability to assist and lead the design and development of roadway design tasks and plans preparation. Teamwork is the cornerstone of our practice and the candidate will be expected to work well within a multi-disciplined team environment coordinating at times with various task leaders, project managers and office leaders.

In addition to the hands-on roadway design experience on traditional PennDOT, design-build and municipal projects, the candidate will have the opportunity to engage multiple career paths including project management, technical management and/or client service.

We offer training opportunities both locally and nationally, including an online Leadership Institute which provides guidance for engineers to develop their soft skills for career and leadership growth.

The selected Engineer will:

  • work on a team of engineers with design and production of highway construction drawings
  • assist the design team with project bid documents, including preparation of plans, cost estimates, and specifications. Specific civil engineering tasks include horizontal and vertical geometric design, 3D corridor modeling, preparation of design calculations, quantity calculations, construction specifications, and preparation of construction cost estimates.
  • communicate with the Project and Task Managers on key issues and project progress.
  • prepare moderately complex studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation
  • occasionally visit work site(s) and report findings to other experienced engineers and/or project managers
  • communicate with clients regarding project issues, holds and attends meetings
  • assist with defining scope of work and staff-hour requirements for client proposals
  • assist project managers in ensuring that project/task schedules and budgets are met
  • ensure work efforts for assigned tasks fall within established budgets
  • coordinate with technicians and less experienced engineers and engineers-in-training to ensure timely and accurate document or drawing preparation
  • maintain knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training
  • perform other duties as assigned
More experienced transportation designers and project managers are also encouraged to apply.


- Minimum 6-8 years of engineering experience

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

- Proficient with Bentley MicroStation software and Microsoft Office

- Experience on roadway design and plans preparation for PennDOT preferred

- Experience with 3D modeling, Bentley InRoads (and/or OpenRoads)

- Strong engineering judgment with strong background in Transportation

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, public speaking ability, and problem-solving skills

- Project Engineer that can lead a team to deliver multi discipline staff and develop plans, specification, and cost estimate with minimal supervision.

- Have the capability to work in a dynamic environment and conduct multi-tasking efforts

- Professional Engineer (PE) License in Pennsylvania (or licensed in other state with intent and qualifications to apply for license in Pennsylvania)


The compensation amount for this position will be $80,711 - $121,067.
