Safety Engineer

The Blueprint (Role Profile)
Acts as liaison between local emergency response personnel, state and federal officials, and corporate staff personnel. Maintains appropriate files and records according to government regulations and internal policies. Maintains appropriate levels of safety supplies and oversees the First Aid Room. Leads the Safety Committee and conducts regular meetings. Coordinates training for First Aid Responders.

The Build (Responsibilities)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops, implements, manages, and maintains effective environmental, health and safety programs and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and corporate policies and procedures.

Coordinates the administration of the Workers' Compensation Program. Communicates with medical providers and third party administrator to insure proper management of injury/illness claims.

Conducts the investigation of all accidents and other incidents with potentially serious consequences to ensure appropriate corrective actions and developed and implemented.

Performs annual internal audits of the facility's performance against established EHS goals.

Assists in the development, implementation and administration of required environmental and property conservation programs and procedures.

Assists in the review of materials for environmental consideration prior to initial plant use. Oversees the storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and other materials that impact the environment.

Prepares and submits safety and environmental reports to regulatory agencies as required.

The Toolbox (Qualifications)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on Environmental, Health, and Safety and at least three years EHS experience, preferably in an industrial setting, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have previous experience developing facility programs and providing EHS training. Must have experience with compliance reports for OSHA, EPA, and other state or federal agencies as required. Must have comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations and
procedures. Must possess analytical thinking skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to handle and feel objects; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
SAFETY
Learns and complies with all company safety rules. Uses appropriate safety equipment at all times, including safety glasses and ear protection. Immediately reports all unsafe conditions to supervisors.
Must be familiar with all safety features on equipment, machinery or materials encompassed by job duties.
