The Microscopy group and Imaging group in X-ray Science Division of Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory lead pioneering efforts in developing cutting edge X-ray instrumentation and techniques, enabling multimodal in-situ investigation in areas of physics, chemistry, and material sciences. The coming APS Upgrade will enable X-ray microscopy to resolve chemical and structural information with high resolution using laminography. To accomplish this, we are currently seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Appointee position to support instrumentation development for X-ray fluorescence at beamline 2-ID-E and micro-computed laminography experiments at beamline 2-BM. The successful candidate will develop a novel multimodal experimental apparatus with precise control during data acquisition, as well as work on data processing pipeline. The apparatus will be compatible with various energy-conversion or biological systems which will be transferable between 2-BM and 2-ID-E instrumentation. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team, including physicists, chemists, and engineers, and will lead the effort in deploying software for multimodal data analysis at the APS beamlines.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related discipline obtained within the last three years

• The ability to conduct research such as designing experiments and addressing fundamental and/or applied scientific questions

• Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Programming expertise in Python or other scientific programming languages

• Experience in studying photovoltaics, batteries, or biological systems is beneficial

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Good collaboration skills and be able to work in a team environment

• Experience with automation, control, and instrument infrastructure
