Purpose and Essential Duties
The Co-Op student performs technical activities on assigned projects under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Mechanical Designer, EIT (Engineer-in-Training certification), which includes participation in technical studies, investigations, and designs. In addition, the student assists with the goal of delivering projects that are on time, within budget, and of the utmost quality. This position is Full-Time, Non-Exempt.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Under the supervision of a P.E. and/or E.I.T., performs evaluations and system calculations including load calculations, ventilation schedules, etc., and contributes to the final client proposal.
- Conducts site surveys to determine existing facility conditions with a Project Manager.
- Assists the design team (comprised of multiple disciplines) with the coordination of the project.
- Accompanies the Project Manager on project site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes.
- Assists in the preparation of punch lists and project observation reports to note findings.
- Matriculating student at an accredited university pursuing a major in Engineering.
- Enrolled in their university's Cooperative Education, or related, program.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong desire to learn.
- 5-20% of the time spent traveling to job sites.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand at a desk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to walk, stand, climb, and kneel on job sites.
