Position Overview:

The Customer Order Engineer is primarily responsible for providing electrical and mechanical design and documentation support for power distribution product lines.  This includes, but is not limited to engineering designs, collaborating with application engineers and manufacturing associates, utilization of design automation software, and producing/maintaining manufacturing documentation.

In this role you will:    

  • Consult with plant and field sales engineers in interpreting and defining new equipment applications
  • Develop a variety of complex drawings and bills-of-material based upon established product designs, which provides sufficient detail to accurately convey the purchaser’s equipment application
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces with other products
  • Advise Drafting/Design, Manufacturing, and Purchasing – when required – in interpreting information for the accurate production of equipment in accordance with the purchaser’s requirements.
  • Manage purchaser onsite visits to approve and/or release equipment for shipping
  • Manage Manufacturing and Engineering Change Notice
  • Demonstrate advanced computer skills with ability to learn required software (Bid Manager, AutoCAD, Design Automation, MAPICS)
  • Consult with Quality in resolving issues after the equipment is shipped, when required.
  • Conduct special development/application projects of a complex nature.
  • Inform cost and cycle time improvement activities
  • Conduct technical training guidance and seminars, as required
  • Analyze needs and recommends revisions to Department Policies and Procedures

Qualifications

Required (Basic) qualifications:          

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One+ (1+) year of a voluntary career break from your profession
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a focus in electrical, electronics, or mechanical from accredited institution
  • Electrical, mechanical, or manufacturing Internship/Co-Op experience
  • Knowledge of power distribution products (LV and MV Switchgear, Panelboards and Switchboards, Motor Control Centers, etc.)
  • Experience with PLC or relay programming
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Project Management experience

Position Success Criteria:

  • Strong analytical, computer, writing, presentation, and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information to customers and manufacturing
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical and mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of design standards
