Helpdesk Analyst Internship – Position Description

 

Internship Program Purpose & Outcome:

The purpose of this internship is to staff the Help Desk Analyst (HDA) position. RM will provide eligible service members with the training and opportunity to apply information technology support skills in a civilian workplace.  The program will provide additional information technology training through a mix of virtual presentation-type training and on-the-job training while performing duties as a Helpdesk Analyst. Additionally, each intern will be assigned a mentor who will steward through a 12-week professional development program. The employment objective is to connect internship participants with opportunities within our network of 16,000 employers that lead to job interviews for open positions. Additionally, this program will be remote, with all required equipment and training provided.  There will be no requirement to relocate or travel from your home station. 

 

 

On the Job Training:  Employment skills training and subsequent practical applications in company operations, including work as the Help Desk Analyst will prepare participants for employment in the IT field.  Through a combination of training and practical experience, IT interns can expect to develop and refine the following competencies:

•        Able to assess ticket support requests and determine course of action to resolve

•        Able to provide first-level support of end user systems, peripherals, and mobile devices

•        Able to communicate clearly with end users in written and verbal communication

•        Able to assist with remediation of security vulnerabilities, software patches, and configuration changes

•        Able to provide basic user support for MS 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and major web browsers.

 

Professional Development:  Professional Development runs parallel with employment skills training.  This portion of the program includes participation in professional development seminars, close work with individually assigned mentors from within the company and practical applications to ensure all interns are armed with the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to market themselves effectively and secure meaningful employment in the modern workforce.  Developmental topics include:           

·        Setting effective personal and professional goals using the SMART model.

·        Leveraging social media to network professionally in the digital environment.

·        Developing and deploying coherent personal branding.

·        Creating targeted job searches and targeted resumes .

·        Developing the skills necessary for successful job interviews and salary negotiations.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

·        Monitor IT related ticketing queues to identify, document, resolve, triage or escalate incoming requests.

·        Provide first level support of end-user systems, peripherals, and mobile devices.

·        Assist with the remediation of security vulnerabilities, software patches, configuration changes and rollouts.

·        Corresponding via multiple communications methods to address a wide range of technology related problems.

·        Escalate or reassign tickets to the appropriate team or handler when necessary.

 

Requirements

·        Strong communications skills and an orientation towards delivering responsive customer service.

·        Flexible and willing to learn and support unfamiliar technologies on the fly.

·        Understands basic computer networking concepts and terminology.

·        Has experience using Microsoft Windows operating systems in an Active Directory environment.

·        Can provide end-user support for common applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

·        Proven ability to carefully follow procedures and complete all assigned tasks in the allotted time.

 

Position Logistical Information

•        The Help Desk Analyst Internship is a 3–6-month program and will be a remote role.

•        RecruitMilitary will provide computer and phone equipment needed to complete the internship.

•        Must have a professional, remote work environment conducive to regular phone conversations and video calls.

•        Must have internet connectivity sufficient to support regular online work including computer utilization, VOIP phone conversations, and video calls.  

•        Intern is required to follow all SkillBridge program requirements in accordance with command and installation guidelines.
