Work Performed

  • Perform a variety ofcomplex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biologicaland other research laboratory tests, experiments to obtain data for research purposes. Confer with the lab manager to review work assignments and develop plans for research projects. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals,abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
  • Determine and setup instruments, material and apparatus and operate laboratory equipment requiredfor specific projects.
  • Obtain, prepare, mount and stain human brain tissue for microscopic examination.
  • Prepare chemicals,reagents and solutions needed for laboratory projects.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

 

Skills:

 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Softw are is needed.
  • Ability to work independently on as signed projects once trained in laboratory procedures is expected.
  • Experience in general laboratory safety, including chem ical hygiene and universal precautions while working with human tissue.
  • Familiarity with histology, microtome cutting of paraffin embedded tissue, immunohistochemistry.
  • Knowledge of human neuroanatomy is helpful.
  • Ability to be on call and available to come in to lab after hours to respond to freezer alarms is required.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

Experience

 

None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
