Overview

The Senior Accountant provides accounting and support functions for the corporate accounting group. This position requires close coordination with various executives, as well as cross functional groups: Payroll, treasury, accounts payable, and management information system team. In addition, this position will work closely with external lenders and loan servicers.
Responsibilities

  • Responsible for month-end close processes, including the preparation of various consolidated financial statements and analysis of financial results to be used in the preparation of public filings. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Timely detail review workpapers prepared by staff accountant.
    • Prepare workpapers and post journal entries for certain key areas, such as management fees, accrued liabilities, financing activities, etc.
    • Assist in the preparation of variance analysis and quarterly reporting packages.
    • Prepare certain portions of the financial statements filed with the SEC and detail review sections prepared by the staff accountant.
    • Ensure financial records for various entities are maintained in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
    • Assist Senior Manager with board reporting deliverables.
    • Prepare debt compliance on a monthly/quarterly basis as required by the loan agreements.
    • Manage internal and external audit requests on a quarterly and annual basis.
    • Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and a strong record of success in academic and work environments. Minimum GPA 3.0.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience; public accounting experience and CPA or CPA candidate (preferred).
  • Experience at mortgage REIT or in specialty finance industry preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Yardi General Ledger (preferred).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures with ability to research and recommend appropriate treatments.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple deliverables at one time.
  • Position requires ability to have strong attention to detail, and ability to effectively communicate with business partners and management as to accounting related matters.
