What You Will Do:

  1. Facilitates a variety of functions to support the Breast Multi D, breast evaluation and genetic team(s) to include but not limited to the following:

a)                   Coordinate scheduling of appointments for new and established patient visits.

b)                   Assist with patient flow in and out of clinical exam rooms.

c)                   Initiate survivorship care plans for patients that are eligible and partner with clinical care team to complete the delivery of the care plan to the patient and physician specialists following consultation by the clinician.

d)                   Request outside clinical records as appropriate.

e)                   Distributes tumor board list to physician and clinical teams prior to conference.

f)                    Assist with CME attendance log to ensure compliance with regularly scheduled series tumor board conference.

g)                   Attends and participates in a variety of patient support group and community functions that relate to our patient population.

h)                   Assist with the ordering of supplies or office equipment as needed.


  1. Clinical Functions:

a)                   Gathers and documents patient reported reason for visit/chief complaint in the medical record. 

b)                   Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam.

c)                   Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider. Functions within clinical scope of practice depending upon level of certification.

d)                   Performs routine office vital signs according to scope of practice.   

e)                   Obtains necessary blood specimens as ordered by provider.

f)                    Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.  

g)                   Maintains necessary supplies in clinical area.

h)                   Assists with room turnover, stocking, running of errands and patient transport as indicated. 

i)                    Facilitates chart prep prior to patient visit to ensure all needed clinical information is included for provider assessment.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience


  1. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). 
  2. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.  Nursing Assistant Certification will be accepted in lieu of the Medical Assistant course certificate.
  3. Additional course work in medical terminology, data entry, and coding preferred.
  4. At least three years experience in a physician practice required.
  5. CPR certification is required.

IV.          Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Must be willing to rotate between all University Care sites and other outreach sites for PRN coverage as determined by manager, using own mode of transportation
  2. Demonstrated skill in venipuncture. Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques. Knowledge of blood and body fluid precautions. 
  3. Knowledge of data entry required.  Knowledge of applicable PC software preferred; ability to learn required.   
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary to work with practice staff in a courteous and effective manner when responding to requests.
  5. Knowledge and ability to follows UMMS and departmental policies and procedures, as well as relevant medical records regulations, with particular respect to medical records and release of patient information.
