GENERAL PURPOSE:  Recognize, adapt, and implement changes in the printing 1-up files as well as identify potential problems. Understand systems based on our printing processes and software needs.  Use knowledge of printing processes to carry out procedures of jobs based on quick turnaround.  Determine what and how corrections to color and images are to be made.  Interpret customer notations and instructions for corrections both written and verbal.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Identifies and analyses potential problems with 1-up requirements and the flow through prepress department.
Carries out job production on MAC to digital files.
Proofs jobs in final approval stage for content, distortion, and traps.
Handles multiple jobs in various production stages.
Produces key jobs based on complexity and print runs.
Identifies and analyzes customer files for fonts, images, integrity, printability and potential issues.
Prepares files for proofing and printing. 
Generates pre-flight lasers and color proofs to check separations before film.
Traps files and applies necessary pullbacks and changes to press.
Retouches images for better plating results.
Conducts extensive, creative and precise retouching.
Works on specialty and high profile projects.
Applies special finishes, e.g., foilkote, custom coatings, and trapping in Photoshop.
Reviews color with pressroom and Prepress Managers and help decide on correction needed.
Acts as Project Manager on complex projects; interacts with customer and sales force on complicated jobs offering suggestions and solutions while creating mock-ups to present for approval of new concepts. 
Performs other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s degree from accredited two-year college or technical school preferred
Work independently and with innovative thinking.
Work on complex Photoshop files with 50 or more layers.
Compare complex files to determine if completed correctly.
Create laborious and intricate masks in vector or raster format.
Must have minimum of five years’ experience in graphic arts/printing industry.
Must have hands on knowledge of trapping program, Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, trapping, Macintosh, file management, network utilizations and workflow and maintenance/troubleshooting.
Knowledge of JMS and NEO a plus.
Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers.
Must have the ability to establish, maintain and retrieve permanent files.
Must pass color vision and color hue tests.
Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
Must be reliable and dependable.
Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
