Organization Overview

Eli Lilly & Company's Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) organization is responsible for discovering and optimizing novel biotherapeutic (proteins, peptides, antibodies) medicines for advancement into clinical research in key areas of unmet medical need including diabetes, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and others. A crucial component for success is ensuring the generation of drug candidates containing biopharmaceutical properties that ensure successful manufacturing, formulation, and drug delivery.

The oral formulation and delivery group is focusing on developing formulations and delivery systems for oral peptides. This team works cross-functionally with both research and development groups.

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join a team that can independently conceive of and complete experiments based on discussions with scientific partners.

Responsibilities

  • This position in the Biotechnology Discovery Research, oral formulation and delivery group will have responsibility for developing novel drug delivery technologies to enable oral delivery of biologics.
  • Identification and implementation of new oral formulations and delivery systems to overcome challenges of oral peptide delivery
  • The selected candidate will collaborate with cross-functional scientist to develop assays for understanding formulation mechanism of action (MOA) and building in vitro-in vivo connection (IVIVC) of formulation effects
  • Understanding physiological challenges in the GIT and molecular properties of peptides to craft novel formulations for oral peptides


Basic Qualifications

  • Ph. D. in chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical engineering, material sciences or related scientific field
  • 2+ years of post-doc or industry experience in drug delivery systems and/or oral formulations


Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Hands-on experience with oral formulations for large molecules is helpful.
  • Extensive experience with formulation development and novel drug delivery systems
  • Experience with novel solid dosage forms for biologics is preferred
  • Good understanding of gastro-intestinal physiology
  • Proven track record of publication in high impact journals
  • Proven success in working independently and as part of a larger group.
  • Communication skills are vital to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment is required.
