This is a remote position and can sit anywhere within the PNC footprint, except for Colorado, Hawaii or Alaska. There is limited expectation for regular in person, in office activities.

This position is part of PNC's C&IB Technology organization. As a Software Manager - Java, you will manage multiple teams of 5-7 software engineers who will design, develop, enhance, maintain and support enterprise level applications leveraging JEE, IIB and Oracle. In this role you will be responsible for performing all personnel related duties such as hiring, interviewing, performance reviews, skills development, and conflict resolution and access management. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing team productivity to resolve open defects in a timely manner and implement small enhancements based on priorities set by the business. You will also bring to bear necessary resources, ensure sound recovery process, escalate as needed and provide updates to technology and business partners all the while working with the team to maintain accurate system documentation and setup comprehensive system alerting.

Due to the nature of this position, we are looking for candidates with deep analytical and problem solving skills who strive for accuracy and thoroughness while exploring ways to improve quality and system availability. Preferred candidates will have the ability to lead their team in solving P1/P2 production issues quickly while minimizing customer impact, show an ability to identify and mitigate risks to our production systems, as well as have the ability to develop strong relationships with technology partners and business teams. Candidates should also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to strong presentation and communications skills with ability to make technical recommendations to PNC management and internal/external service partners.

Additionally, preferred candidates may also have experience with any of the following:

* Experience with SOX/Audit compliance, security attestations
* Experience with Agile and Waterfall Development Methodology's
* Working knowledge and technical experience of the Java language and Java frameworks
* Understanding of DevOps processes, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
* Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), Microservices and Relational Databases (RDBMS)
* Understanding of distributed system infrastructure (servers, network, database, firewalls, DNS, LDAP etc.)

Job Description

  • Manages development projects, development teams and application support functions.
  • Oversees multiple application programming and analysis projects which include development, installation and maintenance of application programs.
  • Monitors and maintains adherence and compliance to quality standards on an ongoing basis.
  • Maximizes staff contribution through professional growth and development, to increase teamwork and more effectively meet business needs.
  • Analyzes applications to ensure that all systems that are developed, meet business needs and specifications.
