Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Biostatistician.



The Department of Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine seeks to hire a Senior Biostatistician who will work on studies conducted in the Department on the psychiatric conditions of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its comorbidities, and alcohol and opioid abuse. Projects seek predictors and subtypes of these disorders from clinical, blood, neuro-imagining, and neurocognitive markers using statistical and machine learning methods in clustering and classification problems. Other work includes analysis of data obtained from both classic and novel clinical trial designs to test treatment outcomes for the studied disorders. He /she will work in the Departments Biostatistics Group which provides analytic support to its researchers and also conducts its own research on new analytic statistical and machine learning methods in support of Department work.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in statistics with training or experience in clinical trial design, machine learning and epidemiology. Experience in the application of random forests and neural nets is highly desirable.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Work with Sr. Database Analyst to organize study data sets for easy retrieval and use of data for    listings,  descriptive tables  and figure generation.
    • Work with Psychiatry Department members to utilize relevant data to answer research issues of interest by providing data summaries, preliminary analyses and figures of interest.
    • Contribute to research design, data collection methods, conduct power analyses and data analytic sections of research publications and grant applications submitted by Department members.
    • Conduct statistical analyses for research manuscripts for publication.  
    • Report and assist in the interpretation of results of analyses.
    • Work with members of Biostatistics group  in the development of new statistical methods and their application in psychiatric research
    • Work with members of Biostatistics group  to write publishable journal articles on new analytic work   
    • Generate publication quality figures for presentations and journals.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


To qualify you must have a PhD in Statistics or Biostatistics or a Masters degree with at least 3 years of experience in a medical research setting.
Expertise using computer statistical packages, including SAS and R.
Familiarity and understanding of basic research designs, psychological, and biological data analyses.
Some experience using machine-learning packages including random forests and neural nets.
Have strong interpersonal skills and written/oral communication skills.
Have ability to participate in multiple projects with diverse tasks to achieve desired goals.
Have ability to work under minimal supervision.
