The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. This position will be in support of the Clinical Neuroscience of Psychopathology (CNP) lab in the Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. The fellow will work on studies that aim to elucidate the genetic and neurobiological basis of alcohol use, addiction, impulsivity, and other psychopathology. This research includes collaborations with principal investigators from the University of Pennsylvania, the National Institutes on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and Yale University. The ideal candidate will have strong computational and analytic skills and a passion for psychiatric genetics and addictions research.Remote options are available for this opening.

Responsibilities

HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow who will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development.

The Fellow will have the opportunity to lead impactful manuscripts and travel to national and international conferences to present work. Our lab prioritizes mentorship and professional growth.

Working with multiple phenotypic, genomic, and neuroimaging large datasets including the Million Veterans Program (MVP), All of Us, UK Biobank, Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, dbGaP, and others.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development; includes working on pheWAS, GWAS, whole genome association studies, protein-protein interaction and other genomic and bioinformatic analyses.
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation of technical reports, summaries, study protocols, and IRB submissions.
  • Assist with the preparation and development of methods, results, syntax, and manuscripts.
  • Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Experience/skills in data management, working in a research lab, communicating effectively both orally and in writing, and working in a team setting.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Candidates with skills in data management and analysis (R, Python, SAS), computer science (R, Python, Linux) and statistics are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • A strong interest and willingness to learn some of these skills may be acceptable as well.

Qualifications

Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Education and Experience
  • Doctoral degree
  • Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.

Compensation

The likely salary range for this position is $47,600 USD to $60,000 USD annually based on a 40-hour work week. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensations or salary. Final salary will be determined based on market analysis, experience, and education.
