Wake Island, Hawaii

This role will support the Installation Support Services (ISS2) contract on Wake Island.

This position will require that the employee work on site at Wake Island. Transportation from Honolulu, Hawaii to Wake Island will be furnished by government sponsored aircraft. Meals and housing will be provided by the program while working on the island. Employees will live in a dormitory housing environment and meals will be furnished daily through the cafeteria commissary. This role is perfect for someone who is able to remain away for long periods of time while working on island with occasional scheduled trips back to Honolulu.

Key Role:


Responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the power plant.


The Power generation specialist is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the power plant. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment to adapt and apply guidelines to specific situations as needed.


Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing work of subordinate employees.
  • Ensures periodic maintenance and exercising of all generators and generator assets to ensure continued reliability.
  • Ensures scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on auxiliary equipment (fuel oil transfer pumps, lube oil circulating pumps, centrifugal purifiers, circulating water pumps, fuel oil and lube oil systems, and soft water systems).
  • Checks daily logs to determine proper operation of equipment.
  • Requisitions supplies, materials, and repair parts.
  • Prepares daily, monthly, and annual reports of power plant operation, power usage, and costs.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
  • Maintains proficiency in all areas of operations and maintenance of the power plant.
  • Mechanical and electrical systems throughout the plant.
  • Electrical and pneumatic controls and automatic boiler/heat exchanger controls.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Common office machinery, including copiers, fax machines, and computers.
  • Working with high voltage equipment.
  • Keeping accurate records and prepare daily and monthly reports of power plant operation, power and water usage, and costs.
  • Performing duties in a timely, cost effective manner.
  • Communicating clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Working harmoniously with others.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
