Join the Nuclear Material Control and Accountability (NMCA) Group as a Nuclear Material Accountant and become a valued member of a mission critical team responsible for the detection of potential theft or diversion of accountable nuclear material.

We are looking for a dedicated and detailed-oriented professional with the ability to perform and assure accurate transactions in the LANL nuclear material accounting software. In this position, you will be responsible for providing nuclear material accountability support including comprehensive accounting analysis, reporting of nuclear inventory data, identifying inventory issues, and making recommendations for the resolution of issues.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Experience with and understanding of data in an area in one of the following areas: Accounting, inventory control measurement instrumentation, quality control charting, criticality safety modeling, dose modeling, or an area where data manipulation errors result in high consequence impacts.
  • Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of general accounting and safeguard principles, as applied to nuclear material accountability, to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to become a subject matter expert and mentor in the use of automated inventory, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel spreadsheet development
  • Demonstrated experience following procedures with the ability to make technically sound and compliance-based decisions in a collaborative work environment.

Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Scientific (math, chemistry, physics) background with the ability to understand general accounting principles for accurate nuclear material accounting.
  • Experience working with nuclear material at a DoE or NRC facility
  • Ability to understand nuclear material data, inventory support, related safeguards inquiries, and other components of the NMCA program.
  • Knowledge of off-site shipping and receiving of nuclear material.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
