Occupational Summary strong>

The Lab Research Analyst I,Cardiology will conduct a variety of investigations in the planning,development and implementatio n of experimental procedures within the lab of Dr.Sudha Shenoy in the Du ke University, Division of Cardiology.< /p>

Work Performed

We are se eking an LRA I that will be focused on supporting theresearch projects i n Dr. Sudha Shenoy’s laboratory.  The LRA1 will assist in t he conduct andanalysis of animal experiments, maintain detailed laborato ry notes, documentingprocedures, resultsand interpretations of findings .  Ideal candidates should have a willingness tolearn, along with superi or organizational skills for general lab management.

 

Candidates should be proficient inmouse colony man agement, including PCR-based genotyping and mating mice togenerate new s trains with compound mutations.

 

Candidates with histologyexperience (including embedding mouse samples f or frozen sections, cryotome workand staining) are preferred.  Should be able to do imaging using light and fluorescence microscopes available in theDuke University laboratory and the Duke University LMCF, including l atest modelconfocal microscopes. Stain fixed tissue with antibodies and localizeantibodies by imaging. Analyze images using image analysis softw are, including ImageJ/FIJI,to obtain data for publication. As needed, pr epare images for publication.

 

Ca ndidates should have basicmolecular biology skills and able to perform P CR, DNA isolation and RNAisolation techniques.

 

The analyst will serve as labmanager, taking responsibili ty for lab inventory, lab safety protocols and IACUCinspections, insurin g the humane treatment of all the animals under my carethat are utilized in NIH funded research projects.

 

Supervise, train andinstruct residents, interns, students or lower lev el personnel in laboratorytechniques andprocedures.

Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keepabreast of n ew developments and to obtain information regarding previousexperiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures andtechnique s.

Perform other relatedduties incidenta l to the work described herein.
