The Boeing Space Launch System (SLS) team is seeking an Associate Data Mining and Business Intelligence Engineer to join the team at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, LA. This position includes responsibility for the design of complex Business Intelligence information dashboards, metrics, and predictive/prescriptive analytic solutions/models to meet business objectives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating business objectives and determining stakeholder needs and support the execution of large-scale projects that aligns with program long range business planning. Combines programming, SQL skills, predictive modeling, business understanding and industrial engineering expertise to deliver efficient and scalable Business Intelligence solutions to improve business productivity and business outcome. Business Intelligence solution are expected to include combing, cleaning, and preparing data for modeling, choosing and defining best fit models/algorithms, validating and deploying, and then improving these solutions.

Boeing and NASA are building the world’s largest rocket for human exploration of deep space.  The Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo beyond our moon and into deep space to enable diverse exploration, science and security missions.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Combine, Clean/prepare datasets for modeling

  • Communicates findings from data using visualizations

  • Builds automated visualizations and solutions to offer “data-driven” decision making

  • Applies automation to existing manual processes

  • Use Industrial Engineering and business understanding in order to assess business needs and define projects

  • Develops and fosters relationships with various functions and stakeholders

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position requires the ability to obtain a clearance for access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience): 

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience with data modeling

  • Experience with BI tools, such as MS Power BI and Tableau

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ year of experience in an engineering, computer science or similar role.

  • Experience with combining, cleaning, and communicating findings of large datasets

  • Experience with Agile Frameworks

  • Experience working in software development environment

  • Experience with Regression, non-linear, and cluster modeling,

  • Experience with statistical modeling and/or machine learning

  • Experience working with databases, database management and languages for it (SQL, R, Python, JMP, Tableau, etc)

  • Experience in problem solving and improvement projects.

  • Ability to travel 10%

Typical Education & Experience:

Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
