Our research group is focused on Global Surgery and Frugal Medical Device Development for low-and middle-income countries. We have several ongoing projects that focus on improving access to surgical care and reducing disparities in sub-Saharan Africa.  The primary focus of our work is to support our surgical and research partners in Uganda by identifying their needs and interests and working together to increase capacity in these areas.


  • Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological, and other research laboratory tests, experiments, and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document, and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.
  • Organize and conduct testing of medical devices per IACUC requirements and guidelines.
  • Maintain REDCAP database outcomes metrics. 
  • Maintain database for raw data and organize/prepare scientific data for analysis by the principal investigator.
  • Perform data analysis of REDCAP database metrics and prepare scientific tables/figures.
  • Maintain database for raw data and organize/prepare scientific data for analysis by the principal investigator.
  • Perform field work with global health partners in Uganda testing medical devices and training.
  • Assist with performing small and short-term basic experiments and completing individual parts of an overall large experiment/project.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.


Minimum Qualifications

Work generally requires skills acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology, or other science related scientific field program.


Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two-year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
