Job Description

The Digital Mine Engineer will provide subject matter and advanced technical expertise and leadership to drive impact, performance, and sustainability for advanced analytics digital tools that influence mining and processing operations in collaboration with internal and external resources. Work closely with business, engineering, and technology team members, site managers and leaders, and others, to frame a problem, scope work, shape a solution, challenge the status quo, ask questions to drive innovative thinking, and capture value. Lead cross-functional relationships creating a safe culture for embracing change, strong collaboration, openness and team accountability. In addition, the position will support existing and proposed new digital technologies projects at the North American facilities and will be a main contact for engaging with Operations, Maintenance, IT/OT, Project Management for driving change, providing guidance, problem solving, and support for items related to mine digital solutions. This means translating industry knowledge for user needs into clearly defined action items for the team. Identify opportunities to develop and sustain complex, data-driven technology by taking relevant feedback from users and defining clear objectives for operational and support teams. In addition, the Digital Mine Engineer provides guidance and support to operations, engineering and project management for technology/equipment selection, design, and execution of capital projects.

  • Drive operational change management engaging current deployed technologies by translating innovation and creative solutions into a vision that delivers clear business and end user impact.
  • Actively analyze top global industry and non-industry trends to systematically generate and prioritize innovative ideas by identifying digitally enabled solutions / roadmaps / strategies / recommendations to meet their needs
  • Engage with key client stakeholders to understand the business needs driving innovation and digitization
  • Lead and supervise customer centric activities to understand user pain points seeking to increase the adoption and value delivered from data-driven technology.
  • Translate industry knowledge for user needs into clearly defined action items for the team. Identify opportunities to develop and sustain complex, data-driven technology by taking relevant feedback from users and defining clear objectives for technical support teams.
  • Determine the relative value of digitally enabled opportunities and develop business cases, priority rankings, roadmaps etc. as appropriate
  • Formulate approaches and execution plans that balance technology investment with risk and benefit thereby providing value to the client through targeted improvement in processes and operations
  • Identify high value client use cases for digitalization and develop supporting business cases
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for the Digital Solutions
  • Actively analyze top global industry and non-industry trends to systematically generate and prioritize innovative ideas
  • Support and maintain operational applications, also be involved in the design, testing, and improvement of applications that form part of the mine production system and operations center
  • Monitor and facilitate to control the health of the vital business functions with the operations center (bandwidth, servers, tablets, LTE, On-board telemetry, switches)
  • Incident/Event Management - Work with IT/OT functions to ensure business continuity plans are in place and effective
  • Information Security Management - Work with IT/OT functions to ensure all relevant security policies, standards, and procedures are adhered to
  • Knowledge Management - Participation in the definition and maintenance of process manuals for all processes
  • Implement consistent internal goals and tasks for Carmeuse North America operations.
  • Liaising with relevant professional staff, including engineers, architects, inspectors, contractors, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Interfaces with all levels of management and employees to gather information to provide guidance for implementation including, but not limited to, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructional media.
  • Maintain and develop expertise and proficiency in structural design.


Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) in mining engineering or equivalent. Master's Degree in Business or other Engineering a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in heavy industry with mining fleets and processing plants
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience
  • Professional engineer licensure is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain MSHA certification.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, primarily in the US and Canada. Overnight stays will be required and could include extended assignments during critical implementation and start-up periods.
