GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT : A position is open for a full time Research Technician II at the MGH Cancer Center in the Getz lab. We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, and organized individual to support the research endeavors of this group. Research Technician II is a full-time position that serves to assist Principal Investigators in a research laboratory. Primary responsibilities are to assist in experiments for research projects under supervision of the project head and the PI of the laboratory. This includes execution of experiments, collection of and accurate recording of procedures and results, ordering necessary reagents to conduct experiments, and participation in joint upkeep of the lab. This position requires a person who has Bachelor or Master of Science degree in molecular/cell biology or a related field, pays attention to details, is capable of working independently after training, possesses good verbal and written communication skills, and works well as part of a team. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Principal duties are to conduct experiments for research projects under supervision of the project head and the PI of the laboratory. Specifically, the lab is part of the MGH Cancer Center and the Broad Institute Cancer Program, and the focus is on phylogeny and evolution of malignancies, particularly multiple myeloma and the onset of mechanisms underlying cancer drug resistance. The primary role of this position is to conduct in-vitro experiments in cancer cell lines, utilizing cutting-edge technologies in lineage tracing, single-cell sequencing, and genomic and transcriptomic analysis. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED : * Ability to work independently and as team member * Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems * Demonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologies. * Careful attention to detail * Must be self-motivated Qualifications EDUCATION: Required - Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field with substantial laboratory exposure to molecular biology and/or cell biology. Preferred - Master's degree in biology or a related field. EXPERIENCE: Required: 1-2 years of research and laboratory experience are required, which could be gained as part of undergraduate or graduate education/training. This will include experience in tissue culture work, and molecular methods such as DNA and RNA purification, library prep for DNA and/or RNA sequencing, protein extraction, Western blotting etc. EEO Statement Massachusetts General Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
