GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Manager, Business Intelligence will conduct critical strategic analysis for the Stores teams at Ross and dd's Discounts. This position will report to the Director, Business Intelligence, but will frequently interact with the VP Store Finance and GVP Store Finance, as well as the SVP and VPs of other Stores functions. They will use their training in analytics and various coding programs to analyze significant amounts of data accurately and quickly to reveal store performance trends and their root causes and will partner with the Director & VP to summarize the results into clear written communications for executive review. These reporting and analysis responsibilities are a mix of recurring (weekly, monthly, quarterly) and ad-hoc. The position will require the manager to establish cross-functional partnerships across all facets of the organization (both Field and Corporate).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct practical & comprehensive data analysis to identify changes in performance trends, including root cause, and identify potential solutions for correcting issues identified
  • Design and conduct financial and operational ad hoc analyses to understand drivers of performance and identify root causes of changes in performance trends. Examples include store sales analysis (by various store segmentations), store contribution analysis, analysis of operational metrics including shrink, impact from Store Operations initiatives, customer receipt survey results and other metrics
  • Proactively identify opportunities and execute analysis to develop tangible and fact-based recommendations to improve performance
  • Manage projects from end to end including work plan creation, coordination with other functions in the organization, and support materials development and verbal communication / presentation of findings and recommendations
  • Become a subject matter expert on Ross' customer insight capabilities and drive development, and execution, of daily, weekly, and monthly customer insights processes and analyses.
  • Become an expert on using and maintaining the various customer insights tools (particularly our receipt survey, which gathers customer feedback on their shopping experience). Understand how to calculate key metrics, use various reporting tools, and maintain key elements of the broader customer insights function
  • Own/Maintain vendor relationships regarding Customer Insight tools to stay abreast of the latest enhancements and future roadmap. Use the relationship to help influence tool development to maximize Customer Insights benefit for our Field and Corporate teams
  • Perform analyses to identify key operational areas that drive customer satisfaction, and to identify aspects of our current store operations that have no impact to customer satisfaction. Leverage key findings to develop recommendations for strategic payroll investments to support key operational areas (and to deemphasize operational areas that our customer does not value)
  • Develop processes to support adoption of customer feedback tools across field leadership and stores
  • Maintain recurring updates (e.g., monthly district/store alignment updates, new store additions) and work with 3rd party survey vendor to revise survey questions, as needed
  • Design and complete other customer insights-focused ad hoc analyses as requested by the Director and/or Executive Leadership
  • Own MyDashboard (Field scorecard for key performance and operational metrics) and support the annual report automation process
  • Serve as primary owner of field-facing MyDashboard reporting, leading field education and responding to user inquiries as needed
  • Support the annual process to collect and prioritize requested changes to existing reports and requests for automation or creation of new reports
  • Work with IT and business users to help create report requirement and design documents and facilitate the review and approval of these documents
  • Support the Store Operations team as needed to facilitate the rollout and change management processes for new and or changed reports
  • Serve as the data expert for the Store Dashboard and facilitate implementation of dashboard enhancements
  • Partner with IT to manage the Store ticket prioritization process and escalate critical tickets as needed
  • Proactively identify and initiate improvements to the Field reporting process

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related analytical fields
  • 5+ years of leadership and project management experience, preferably in a retailer, analytical or consulting setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group - executives, managers, and subject matter experts within and outside of the department. Particularly the ability to explain and present analytical methodology and results to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to analyze situations and make logical conclusions.
  • Proficiency with statistical tools (e.g. SQL, R, Python), with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Excel) and other statistical & reporting packages. Solid technical database knowledge and experience optimizing advanced SQL queries on large data sets.
  • Passionately analytical and innately curious creative thinker

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
For hybrid: This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
