The Position The University of Southern California (USC) Human Resources, Equity, and Compliance division is seeking a talented Digital Designer to join its Strategic Communications team. The Digital Designer will be an integral part of the web and creative team, collaborating with strategists, writers, and designers to craft digital content that meets a purpose, improves customer experience, and elevates USCâ??s visual identity across all platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with impeccable design skills and an extensive background working across print and digital media. What Youâ??ll Do The Digital Designer will support the University Human Resources, Equity, and Compliance division in crafting engaging communications for USC employees. You will design digital campaigns, create video and motion sequences, assist in building/managing the photo library, and will produce content across a variety of platforms including social media, newsletters, and websites. Job Responsibilities The Digital Designer will be responsible for: Possessing a broad understanding of the division and its core functions. Creating visually cohesive designs that are engaging and professional. Understanding how to apply university brand guidelines and create production templates for expediting content creation. Demonstrating ability to tell a story through visual content, such as infographics. Providing design direction to project teams as requested. Developing user-friendly, engaging content tailored to platform formats and target audiences. Presenting and defending design decisions with strong conceptual backing. Maintaining open lines of communication with the division to identify new opportunities to improve how employees consume division information. Demonstrating understanding of the role the division plays in enabling USCâ??s business success. Collaborating with stakeholders to translate requirements and technical limitations into high-quality communications collateral. Developing and socializing content production schedules in coordination with communications plans. Collaborating with various division stakeholders to develop communications materials. Understanding requirements, asking probing questions, and guiding the customer through the design process patiently. Building and maintaining effective relationships with project teams by providing timely follow-up and feedback. Maintaining currency with new design and prototyping tools, latest industry knowledge, and best practices. Incorporating feedback iteratively to produce high-quality deliverables within a short timeframe. Anticipating and adapting to rapid changes in production schedules or business requirements. Supporting process improvement efforts within the immediate team and broader division. Demonstrating design ingenuity in developing content given fixed requirements. Reviewing and proofing all production material to ensure error-free final deliverables. Making decisions based on principles of increasing legibility and accessibility and illuminating the message. Adhering to university visual identity when creating designs that incorporate official graphics. Contributing to an inclusive environment by building and maintaining collaborative relationships with team members, peers, and leaders across the division. Upholding the principles of the USC Code of Ethics. Supporting the objective of the Strategic Communications team to serve as a center of excellence for employee-facing digital content. Demonstrating, through words, actions, and ideas, alignment to USCâ??s Strategic Plan and the divisionâ??s strategic plan. Performing other related responsibilities as requested and when necessary. Minimum Qualifications:The candidate for the position of Digital Designer must meet the following qualifications:â?¢ Bachelorâ??s Degree in communications, graphic design, studio art or another related field or equivalent experience.â?¢ Five or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields: marketing, communications, or graphic design.â?¢ Demonstrate competency in systemic design, graphic design, interactivity, layout, typography, color theory, and illustration.â?¢ Familiarity with social media platforms and analytic tools to monitor trends and results, and business sense to know which metrics matter.â?¢ Ability to manage concurrent projects, prioritize competing assignments, and work under pressure with tight deadlines and frequent interruptions.â?¢ Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions with minimal supervision and discretion with confidential information.â?¢ Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building abilities.â?¢ Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.â?¢ Experience working in diverse, cross-functional teams.â?¢ Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think strategically and creatively.â?¢ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).Preferred Qualifications:The ideal candidate for the position of Digital Designer has the following qualifications:â?¢ Advanced Degree in communications, graphic design, studio art or another related field.â?¢ Seven or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields: customer experience/user experience, human resources or higher education.â?¢ Experience in creating and producing online multimedia products, including video, imagery, audio and graphics.â?¢ Experience setting up and running professional video, audio, and lighting equipment in studio and field locations.â?¢ Experience designing based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and familiarity with ADA compliance requirements.â?¢ Proficiency with After Effects for video editing and motion graphics.â?¢ Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to produce quality copy on a tight schedule.â?¢ Knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards in the field of journalism and communications.â?¢ Experience in leadership and people-building roles.â?¢ Division-related knowledge based on a combination of theory, learning, research and hands-on experiences.â?¢ Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership.â?¢ Demonstrated data-driven mindset and instinct for extracting insights from metrics for informed decision-making.â?¢ Proficiency with infographic development and data visualization techniques.â?¢ Experience using professional editing and motion graphics software, and creating video for web and social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook Live, Instagram Stories, etc.). Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
