The Career Program Specialist will assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Career Development and Transition experience for students participating in the UI REACH (Realizing Educational and Career Hopes) Program for the University of Iowa, including some of the following: career development, job coaching, career education curriculum development, classroom teaching. A primary focus of this position will be to teach career preparation courses to UI REACH students. UI REACH is a Comprehensive transition program for students ages 18-25 years old with intellectual, cognitive and learning disabilities. UI REACH offers an integrated college experience in a caring and structured environment. This is a specified term appointment at a 100% effort during the school year starting approximately August 1 - May 31. Position will be placed on an unpaid leave for June and July. Health and Dental benefits continue while on leave. The specified term may be eligible for renewal. This position requires evenings and weekend work schedule as assigned and participation in an on-call duty rotation. Location: Lindquist Center, Iowa City, Iowa Specific Job Duities and Tasks Utilize a person-centered approach in career development and internship placements. Provide individualized job coaching and assessments to support students in the workplace. Support to include task analysis, workplace skills assessments, situational assessments, assistive technology and accommodations. Prepare students for entry into job market through interview practice, resume writing, job search tools, identifying credentials or certificates in increase marketability Assist in the identification, development, and implementation of UI REACH Career curriculum and courses. Serve as the primary instructor of UI REACH career curriculum and courses. Utilize classroom management techniques to create a positive behavioral climate in and out of the classroom. Utilize Universal Design for Learning methodologies and assistive technology in delivering classroom instruction. Utilize strength based and positive behavior supports to create a positive climate in all settings. Serve on the Student Support Team for assigned students in determining individualized strategies for student success. Mentor and support UI REACH students, one to one, in career and transition areas. Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, families, alumni, and the public including campus and community partners, adult service agencies, and other organizations. Education Requirement A Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Typical experience is six months to one year. Experience teaching or delivering instruction to students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. CESP certification (must have or acquire within 1 year of employment). Have a valid driver license and ability to meet and maintain UI driving requirements . Proficiency in computer software applications. Desired Qualifications Demonstrated experience working with individuals in a college or secondary educational setting requiring flexibility in managing multiple responsibilities. Connecting persons with disabilities with work experiences and supporting students at a job site or work experience Completion of an accredited teacher education program and held a teaching license.
