This position will be in support of the Pharmacology Department.

Responsibilities

HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I to support the Kortum laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to Department of Pharmacology.

The research assistant will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. This is an excellent position for recent grads that would like experience prior to applying for medical or graduate school.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing biochemical and cell biological experiments related to new research projects assessing targeted therapeutics in RAS-mutated cancers.
  2. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  3. Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which will involve specialized procedures including: cell line generation using both viral vectors and CRISPR technology, cell culture, nucleic acid extraction/purification/transfection, growth factor stimulation, BRET, immunoprecipitation and Western blotting, molecular cloning and site-directed mutagenesis, pharmacologic assessment of drug-drug synergy, animal genetics and husbandry, and other techniques as needed/required by the laboratory.
  4. Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
  5. Processes and interprets experimental data, and prepares accurate and timely research reports.
  6. Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
  7. Assists with training laboratory staff as needed.
  8. Maintains cleanliness of laboratory areas and performs routine maintenance tasks on laboratory equipment.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Subject knowledge in biology, biochemistry, and genetics. Laboratory experience with competence in routine areas of modern cellular and molecular biology.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Bachelor's in biology, biochemistry or related discipline is preferred.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: A minimum of 0-2 years of experience is required.

Work Environment: Set within a laboratory work environment.

Work Arrangement: 100% on-site.
