The opportunity:

  • This role will report to the Sr. Director, Financial Governance and Compliance and will be responsible for supporting the company’s internal controls over financial reporting and disclosure programs.
  • This position will also support various transformational activities in partnership with process owners and help manage financial risks and controls components of process improvement projects.
  • The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with financial statement or internal control audits and a strong understanding of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) and PCAOB requirements.
  • The candidate should have a good understanding of leading teams and working with individuals across an organization.
  • The candidate should have an understanding in a distributed manufacturing environment with the skills necessary to influence people in a fast-growing global company.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Supports SOX and internal controls programs to confirm the company’s financial statements are materially accurate and complete.
  • Supports business teams with skills in process and controls management problem solving.
  • Ensure effective stakeholder engagement and communications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal customers across different departments.
  • Develops a culture of continuous improvement based on fact based and transparent metrics.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
  • Support the internal and external audit teams during their testing of control design and operating effectiveness.
  • Serve as a company resource in building and maintain a culture of strong financial controls.
  • Regular updates to process documentation, including flowcharts and risk/control matrices.
  • Assist in responding to requests for information and audits related to controls.
  • Assist with the coordination of all required financial controls program activities, including:
    • Managing the distribution and receipt of audit requests.
    • Coordinating with control owners on control remediation responses.
    • Communicating audit results and progress to various stakeholders.
    • Working with control owners to periodically certify controls and processes.
  • Identify risks and gaps in our financial control framework to facilitate remediation.
  • Develop and delivering training and guidance to business stakeholders on effective internal controls.

What you need to succeed:

  • 7+ years of experience.
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. CPA is a plus.
  • Big 4 or public accounting firm experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge with Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and SEC internal controls requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor.
  • Experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams.
  • System implementation experience is a plus.
  • Expert User of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills that allow effective interactions/communications with business partners across regional and/or functional lines.
  • Working knowledge of finance/accounting processes in terms of transactions, close and reporting, budgeting etc.
