The Senior Manager of Internal Controls is responsible for setting and executing the Company's strategic objectives for internal controls over financial reporting and process transformation (e.g., ERP, GRC systems, technology enablement, etc.). The role works with individuals and teams across the organization to maintain effective controls and support the Company's strategic objectives. The role manages cross-functional workstreams with a focus on financial and business process results that improve controls, reduce risks, and increase process efficiency and effectiveness.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

  • Initiative Strategy - Identify, assess, and implement solutions to create a best in class internal controls over financial reporting environment.
  • Project Management and Execution - Lead, plan, and coordinate work teams in an efficient manner to achieve department strategies and objectives such as:
    • Developing and overseeing Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) strategic risk assessment and scoping activities
    • Managing the end to end SOX program from 2nd line point of view
    • Managing the documentation of business processes and associated controls (e.g. narratives, flowcharts, risk and control matrix)
    • Partnering with business teams to continuously assess the design of controls
    • Collaborating with internal and external auditors
    • Monitoring, dashboarding and reporting on the remediation of control deficiencies assisting business teams with remediation activities, providing training and resources to business teams.
    • Coordinate process narrative certification for relevant processes in scope of the Sarbanes-Oxley certification requirements.
    • Deploy training related to controls, policies and requirements to evolve capabilities, governance awareness and efficiencies.
  • Enterprise Initiative Support - Develop and support strategic partnerships with business and support teams. Participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on supporting business partners and ensuring an effective control environment. This may also include the following directly or through oversight of others:
    • Identify areas of emerging control risk through proactive and regular collaboration & pulse checks and further relevant information sources.
    • Lead enhancements of global internal controls and governance content by soliciting input from stakeholders, identifying, and analyzing recommendations, assessing simplification, automation, and technology enablement opportunities, and with business processes while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP.
    • Contribute to complex transformation initiatives (e.g. ERP system implementations, policy & process simplifications) to ensure the risk-appropriate consideration and implementation of internal controls and governance requirements.
  • People Management - Manage and oversee the work of a managerial team; remove barriers that arise and provide feedback and support as needed 

Nature and Scope

  • Typically reports to Director Finance
  • Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. Planning, monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required. This may include direct supervision or the coordination of multiple work groups. Makes recommendations concerning selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development


  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.


  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

 Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 6 years

Physical Job Requirements:  Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to

move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Information Systems, or related field is preferred
  • Strong business process, risks, and controls knowledge
  • CPA, CIA, or other related certification preferred
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high functioning teams
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to partner with business units across the organization to achieve consensus
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization through strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort negotiating in competitive or adversarial environments

  • Thorough working knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices
