Job Summary & Responsibilities

The mission of the Systems Engineer (Manufacturing) is to support both sustaining of released products and introduction of new designs to the production of new metrology products & upgrades into Manufacturing and the Field. Projects range from process and procedure improvements, to design of fixtures in the qualification of critical parts' performance, to the introduction of new product releases. Finally, troubleshooting of system performance specification gaps within an operations environment and consistent refinement of quality furthering Onto's goal of a commitment to continuous product improvement.

Roles and Responsibilities: The Manufacturing Systems Engineer will have a focus on the core metrology system and an understanding of the interaction with the remainder of the product.
  • Design and conduct experiments to characterize, troubleshoot, and improve complex optical metrology systems
  • Optimize assembly, alignment, and calibration of subsystems and metrology systems
  • Design and build test fixtures for component and subsystem testing
  • The composition of procedures or BKMs for construction or qualification of assembly
  • Work with manufacturing and QC to improve testing, troubleshooting protocols, and alignment of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies
  • Troubleshoot using industry standard problem-solving methodologies such as 8D
  • Work with engineering to understand new designs and enable the transition into high volume manufacturing
  • Innovative thinker capable of new and fresh ideas for problem-solving


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
  • Must have 3-5 5 years of increasingly responsible engineering and product development management experience in leading high-tech companies preferably engaged in the manufacture of advanced semiconductor equipment.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical (or equivalent knowledge) and 3+ years directly related experience. Mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Background in development of optical or inspection-based equipment a plus
  • Detailed, structured, and process-oriented with experience in operating within a product lifecycle process
  • Experienced working with the key module and component suppliers
  • Experienced in developing equipment with external partners to coordinate and collaborate total system requirements and objectives
  • Strong sense of urgency, discipline, and accountability
  • Experience with manufacturing principles and systems such as 5S, Lean, Kanban, etc
  • Organized planner with clear ability to construct and communicate direction, risks, and mitigations
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to resolve personal conflicts communicate and influence across all levels of the organization
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate, quantitative, and timely analyses
  • Exceptional oral, interpersonal communication and presentation skills
