Department: Facilities Mgmt EV Salary/Grade: 681/U8 Job Summary: Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled tasks related to the repair, maintenance, and record keeping for University autos, trucks, landscape and snow removal equipment, portable generators, and other equipment. Performs work independently with latitude for determining proper materials, methods, and purchasing of related parts, is subject to inspection during progress and after completion.      The role will support the department’s mission and values by exhibiting the following: inclusiveness, respect, initiative, collaboration, innovation, and accountability. The incumbent will strive to provide excellent service when performing job responsibilities and will practice safe work procedures, and follow safety rules at all times. Please note : Available 24x7 for snow removal and storm response. Must be a member of  Local 681, or join after 30 days. Specific Responsibilities : Performs general repairs and maintenance to University vehicles and equipment; Maintains documentation and record keeping of repairs and maintenance; Completes state and / or local testing of fleet vehicles; Completes data entry related to labor and material usage; Performs repairs and maintenance of other University vehicles and equipment; Provides assistance to other trades as needed; Available 24x7 for snow removal and storm response; Miscellaneous Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent combination of educational training and experience from which comparable skills are acquired; Training and /or development experience equivalent to a full apprenticeship (4 years) plus relevant work experience of two years or more; Must possess valid Illinois driver’s license; Must join Laborers Local 681 after one month of employment; Must provide dependable personal vehicle and purchase University parking permit (Evanston Campus). Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.) Thorough knowledge of the tools, methods, and standard trade safety practices; Knowledge of the proper handling, mixing and disposal of toxic or potentially hazardous materials; Physical ability to climb and descend ladders, works in cramped quarters, and maneuvers weights. Dexterity is necessary for the use of tools and manipulation of materials; Must have good written & oral communications & listening skills; must be able to communicate and relate well with University community, fellow workers and supervisor; Receptive to feedback, willing to learn, embracing of continuous improvement; Helpful, respectful, approachable, collaborative, team oriented; Ability to build strong working relationships and a positive work environment; Integrates health and safety precautions into daily activities. Preferred Qualifications: CDL license, Class B with air brakes; Proficiency with mobile devices including iOS; Proficiency with software programs including Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook; and CMMS systems. Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities) Facilitates open and effective communication, cooperation, and teamwork within the unit; Recommends improvements and opportunities to increase efficiency, safety, and reduce costs; Analytical skills including critical thinking, decision making, troubleshooting, and problem solving.
