If you choose to accept this mission, you will:
  • Be responsible for technical requirements definition, design, and design verification of cryopumps and cryochillers.
  • Design improvements on legacy products and add customizations features for strategic customers onto the existing products.
  • Translate marketing requirements and create detailed product technical requirements while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Create model design of new system or subsystem solutions to meet the given technical requirements.
  • Develop novel system, product, and component concepts to develop intellectual property.
  • Verify the model by building physical prototypes and performing measurements.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis to identify components and properties critical to product performance.
  • Perform cost, quality, and reliability analysis for trade-offs during feasibility phase of new product development to help justify the market needs.
  • Facilitate Design Reviews and Product Safety Reviews with Senior Technical Staff and other stakeholders during conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phase.
  • Develop test procedures, custom test setups, and test plans to evaluate performance of new products.
  • Perform testing independently, collect data, and create test reports.
  • Review the reliability and SQA results of first pilot production as well as approve product manufacturing.
  • Practice Design for Excellence (DFX) on New Products to cover Manufacturability, Cost, Assembly, and Serviceability.
  • Support start of New Product Manufacturing with appropriate documentation.
  • Assist Service and Marketing on technical brochures and marketing collateral.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement by documenting best practices and sharing lessons learnt.
  • Provide high quality Design Outputs including Drawings, Analysis Reports, and other Design History Records.
  • Requires up to 10% domestic travel.
What we expect of you:
  • Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in mechanical engineering or mechatronic engineering; plus 3 years of experience in job offered or in design and development of electromechanical products.
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience accepted in the alternative.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma Tools and Statistical Methods.
  • Experience in ProE/Solidworks modeling for subassembly and system design.
  • Experience in structural and/or fluid analysis using Ansys, Solidworks, or similar simulation software.
  • Experience in product development resulting in Intellectual Property/Patents.

This role sits within Edwards Vacuum, the CTIP Product company in Chelmsford which is part of the newly formed Semi Chamber Solutions Division within Atlas Copco's Vacuum Technique business area. It provides a complete range of Equipment and value-added services for customers in a range of applications & processes, depending on the market. The customers vary from very large global accounts to small diffuse customers. The division provides products under the Edwards brands. Edwards Vacuum currently resides in Chelmsford, MA.
