Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary This individual is responsible for the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards including the administration and promotion of the Washington University (student) conduct system. This individual works closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students related to student conduct, special projects, and other assigned tasks. Job Description This position is located in an office environment working at desk/table using office equipment. Repetitive hand, wrist or finger movement with the ability to travel to on- and off-campus locations. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Acts as primary contact person and liaison for members of the University who want to file complaints of alleged misconduct and/or violations of the University Student Conduct Code or who are charged with violations of the Code. Hears, investigates and rules upon complaints of violation of the University Student Conduct Code and impose sanctions as necessary. Hear appeals for cases which were originally heard by other conduct processes within the University such as those adjudicated by Residential Life and Campus Life. Recruits, trains and advises the Student Conduct Board, including the Conduct Board co-chairs.Â Convenes and supports the Student Conduct Board when they are assigned to hear cases. Designs programs and publications to educate students, faculty, staff and parents about the University Student Conduct Code and the consequences of behavior that violate the Code. Collaborates regularly with the various academic and administrative offices including the Associate/Vice of the academic units, the Office of the General Counsel, the Washington University Police Department, and the University Registrar regarding student conduct affairs. Supervises a full-time Assistant Director, and coordinate supervision for graduate interns, summer interns, and year round student workers. Performs other duties as assigned. Juris Doctorate or Ph. D. degree plus five to seven years of relevant experience. Demonstrated skills in working with decision-making processes and conflict resolution. Experience working with student discipline systems. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in dealing with students, faculty, staff, parents, and attorneys. Ability to communicate and interact with students and to create an atmosphere where students feel free to ask questions and obtain assistance. Ability to work with parents on matters involving serious matters and sometimes recommending that students be suspended or expelled from the University. Ability to take initiative and solve problems. Excellent administrative/organizational skills. Ability to work closely with senior administrators, including but not limited to the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Students, Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, and the Provost. Flexibility, tolerance for ambiguity and patience are also necessary. Required Qualifications Juris Doctorate or Ph.D. plus five years of related experience. Grade G15 Salary Range $75,400.00 - $132,800.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
