Requisition Number: 2022-167 Business Unit: College of Pharmacy Department: COP Pharmaceutical Science 50000722 Reg-Temp: Full-Time Regular Position Summary: The Trippier lab at the University of Nebraska Medical Center ( ) is engaged in small molecule drug discovery for a range of neurodegenerative, proliferative, and pediatric diseases. The lab uses techniques in synthetic medicinal chemistry, computational drug discovery, and chemical biology to design, synthesize, characterize and elucidate mechanism of action of small molecules with therapeutic potential. We seek an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to culture and characterize patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and develop highly phenotypic assays for compound screening in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ( ALS ). The Postdoctoral Research Associate will monitor iPSC cultures and develop protocols and methods to differentiate iPSCs into neuronal subtypes and to characterize these models. Assay development work will follow to develop an effective phenotypic screening program. The ideal candidate will have an awarded Ph.D. in chemical biology, cell or molecular biology, neuroscience or similar, with experience culturing, differentiating and characterizing iPSCs. The ability to independently analyze, interpret and communicate results along with standard laboratory maintenance skills is required. Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with government-funded research reporting, as well as health and safety requirements, are essential. Duties include: Culture, characterization, and maintenance of patient-derived iPSCs. Assay development. Compound mechanism of action determination. Stay current with the literature and apply new methodology to the research project as appropriate. Participate in creating new research proposals. Prepare periodic progress reports or written reports on all phases of the research project. Prepare manuscripts for review and submission. Assist junior lab members in their research projects by providing a point of contact for iPSC and wider cell cullture techniques and methodology. Other duties as assigned.
