Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati's information technology group (IT@UC) is seeking a new team member to join our Software Quality Assurance (QA) group. The responsibilities of the group span multiple areas that are critical to producing stable, high-quality applications and services. As a new member within the QA team, you will serve in an integral role in supporting core and custom solutions development, ensuring that delivered software solutions are designed, built, and implemented to provide a highly accessible user experience and outstanding quality to our customers.

Specifically, the quality assurance (Accessibility) team focuses their work in the areas listed below:
  • UI design validation and remediation to target WCAG2.1 AA Compliance Auditing & Testing
  • System functional and integration testing
  • UAT (Business processes testing) coordination and support
  • Browsers and Mobile devices compatibility testing
  • Usability and functional performance test
  • Application Security scanning & remediation support
  • Troubleshooting and resolution of customer support reports

Essential Functions

  • Develop test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test reports for software application development projects.
  • Execute test cases utilizing targeted test data and report results and exceptions (defects).
  • Plan, participate, and guide the execution of the User Acceptance Test with BCS.
  • Participate in business/functional requirements development and ensure that defined requirements are testable.
  • Participate in defining Acceptance criteria for the definition of test completeness and test coverage.
  • Document and manage defects process during the product development phase. Lead defect triage meetings and provide defect status reporting. Perform root cause analysis for discovered defects and recommend process improvement for the prevention of defects.
  • Utilize a risk-based testing process to assure that high-priority business functions are tested first.
  • Identify and communicate all risks relative to testing for evaluation by the project team. Identify and document all product discrepancies during the test execution phase.
  • Define the most effective test strategy for each project based on technology, complexity, scope, and timeline.
  • Provide constant input for QA/test process improvements to achieve high-quality product releases.
  • Ensure compliance of the application with defined standards and guidelines (security, accessibility, etc.).
  • Establish and document measurable test objectives and provide test metrics progress reports to the project team.
  • Manage daily task assignments for multiple test resources on the same project.
  • Provide QA subject matter mentoring for co-op students and student workers.
  • Develop and execute automated scripts to support CI/CD process and regression testing.
  • Create test automation common test cases library and enhance the current test automation framework.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience or relevant combination of education and experience within General Information Technology or a related field.

Required Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience within Information Technology and/or Quality Assurance and direct customer care. Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, as this role requires working with a wide range of customers.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Advanced knowledge of WCAG2.1 AA Compliance Auditing & Testing.
  • Working knowledge of Waterfall and Agile/Scrum software development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of Quality Assurance testing of software systems and application, including functional, integration, and regression testing.
  • Working knowledge of designing and documenting test strategy, test plans, test cases, acceptance criteria, and user stories.
  • Experience in test data creation and maintenance, understanding of data validation process.
  • Ability to independently analyze extensive datasets, identify discrepancies and inconsistencies and recommend a course of corrective action.
  • Basic knowledge of Test automation and Test automation tools and frameworks.
  • Understanding of Information Security scanning & remediation support.
  • Working knowledge of project management and defect tracking systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Successful candidates will have outstanding communication and collaboration skills, as this role requires working with cross-functional as well as cross-departmental teams.
  • Recent certification in Scrum practices (preferred Scrum Master certification).
  • Experience using automated tools to conduct accessibility reviews, scans, and remediation using dynamic and static analysis tools such as Level Access AMP.
  • Experience in UI/UX and Usability development and testing for websites and applications.
  • Extensive use of Jira for project/task/defect management in Agile development projects.
