Job Summary:

The Catastrophe Modeling & Analytics Team (CMAT) leverages vended catastrophe models for natural hazards to develop catastrophe information critical to product pricing and risk & return management. The Catastrophe Modeling Associate Manager provides support in the form of research and analytical assignments for modeled natural hazard catastrophe perils. They complete assignments of moderate to high complexity, providing analytical and catastrophe modeling support to a variety of business partners in support of ratemaking, underwriting, product management strategy, and risk & return management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads/performs catastrophe modeling and analysis of moderate to high complexity and communicates results to inform decisions for product pricing, underwriting, product management strategy, and/or risk & return management; this may include running catastrophe modeling software
  • Manages work of a moderate to highly complex scale that is completed by a group including identifying resource and skill needs across multiple workstreams and/or projects; this would include primarily self-directed planning, implementing, and/or contributing to projects using accepted project management standards
  • Provides thought and/or technical leadership, including contributions to improvement, development and innovation of analysis and processes, and often serves as a subject matter expert
  • Leverages understanding of catastrophe modeling, insurance business, products, and reinsurance to influence pricing and risk & return management strategies and business decisions
  • Trains, coaches and/or mentors team members or peers and actively shares expertise with peers. May manage processes and analysis of modeled catastrophe output for PML monitoring and support for accounting, rating agency surveys and product pricing applications
  • May manage technology support including driving best practices for catastrophe modeling and data management, partnering with Technology to manage SQL server environment and remote desktop computers, and partnering with model vendor to manage catastrophe modeling software environment
  • May manage validation and evaluation of catastrophe models to assess reasonability, identify limitations and assess appropriate use


Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, finance, economics or other related/quantitative field, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty insurance experience with a primary carrier, reinsurer, and/or reinsurance intermediary or other related experience



Functional Skills
  • Advanced project management skills to independently handle multiple projects of moderate to high complexity
  • Advanced knowledge of working with large amounts of data, resolving data issues and programming languages like SQL
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of commercially available catastrophe models, including interpretation of technical documentation
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Advanced knowledge in the use and ability to learn a wide variety of tools, data sources and computer applications
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups and all organizational levels
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Intermediate understanding of reinsurance concepts preferred


Compensation offered for this role is$80,500.00-$134,800.00 per yearand is based on experience and qualifications.
