Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary The Interior Designer II is responsible for facilities-related interior design and FF&E review/coordination â“ working closely with departments, architects and consultants/vendors on small and large projects, new construction and renovation of existing buildings as part of the facilities project team. The position serves as subject matter expert who will specify finishes as required for small facilities projects, review interior design concepts and finishes on Capital Projects and refine/update campus-wide interior finish and design standards. Interacts with business and various support staff, and works independently with minimal supervision. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Strategic planning and programming - Meets with OFMD planners/project managers and departmental stakeholders to understand project concepts, goals and budgets related to interiors. Also helps determine reuse of existing furniture. Can be in multiple meetings over a time period of a few weeks to two years depending on the size of the project. Design & Development - Interior design & space planning using AutoCAD and other presentation software to present to stakeholders, as required. Finish & material selection. Signage/wayfinding and art coordination. Product demos, mock-up coordination, & staging with selected vendors as needed. Document interior and finish design standards, work with Director of Interior & Relocation Planning. Review of procurement strategies. Liaison with Washington University Furniture & Design team. Procurement Process â“ Obtain quotes for interiors-related work on small facilities projects (under $15K). Assist in RFP development for art consultant services and other interior-related program areas as required for Capital Projects. Participate in scheduling and coordination of delivery, installation, stakeholder walk-throughs and sign-offs for various interior program areas, including art, public signage, and some owner-furnished equipment, as required. Provide post-occupancy analysis, lessons learned and benchmarking if required. Contribute to the OFMD interior materials library maintenance, and meet with manufacturersâ™ reps to stay updated on product and design trends. Performs other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications Up-to-date proficiency in AutoCAD, with 2020 Cap Studio a plus. Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other software tools. Good working knowledge of the commercial interior design relevant to higher education, medical research, and healthcare. Experience with assisting stakeholders through design, finish, & furniture selection, specification & pricing support while adhering to budgets and schedules. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong customer service, and teamwork. Good organization skills and being able to work on multiple projects at the same time. Analytical skills to assist in developing plans on how to make improvements or adapt specific best practices used in the A&D industry. NCIDQ certification. Required Qualifications Bachelorâ™s degree in interior design with at least five yearsâ™ experience working with either a furniture dealer or university in-house interiors team or architectural & design firm. Grade G11 Salary Range $49,000.00 - $83,800.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
